UNEP in Haiti: 2010 Year in Review

This publication provides a snapshot of the acute and chronic environmental issues facing the country and UNEP’s efforts to help resolve them. It gives an insight into the types of activities and challenges that UNEP and its partners have to deal with in such a post-disaster setting, and sets out lessons learned so that UNEP itself – and other environmental organizations – can better understand and prepare to assist in the event of future major crises.

UNEP has been requested by the Government of Haiti to conduct an independent review of the proposed Phoenix Waste to Energy project. The scope of this proposed project includes waste collection from Port au Prince and other cities, waste processing, recycling and disposal and incineration of the combustible wastes to generate electricity that would be sold to the Haitian national utility.

Launch of the Global Montreal Protocol Award for Customs and Enforcement Officers - The First Inter-regional Thematic Workshop and Regional Network Meeting of the Ten Ozone Networks

UN Environment OzonAction, in cooperation with the World Customs Organization, the Ozone Secretariat and the Multilateral Fund, is launching the global Montreal Protocol award for customs and enforcement officers. The award recognizes the crucial role of customs & enforcement officers in implementing trade restrictions and bans for hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). Both groups of chemicals are widely used as refrigerants and foam blowing agents.
