Voluntary National Reviews: The Environmental Dimension - Policy Brief [including Tables Annex]
United Nations Environment Programme, Forum for Law, Environment, Development and Governance (FLEDGE)

By focusing on the extent to which the environmental dimension of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been addressed in the voluntary national reviews (VNRs) submitted by countries to the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in 2016 and 2017, the policy brief uses a set methodology to review all the voluntary national reviews submitted by 64 countries in 2016 and 2017. Though early in the timeline, the two cycles of reviews indicate the growing interest of member states to focus on actions related to environmental dimension of achieving the SDGs. The brief also provides an overall assessment of the VNRs as a review mechanism and suggests recommendations to strengthen the reporting of the environmental dimension moving forward.

2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Aligning Financial System Architecture and Innovation with Sustainable Development
United Nations Environment Programme

Finance is a keystone to the successful implementation of the Agenda 2030 but significant barriers exist to securing adequate public and private financing to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. A broader strategy is needed to align the systemic features of finance and its relationship with the universally-embraced 2030 Agenda. The G20 has a central role in shaping the future direction of the global financial system, and given G20 Leaders commitment to further align the G20’s work with the 2030 Agenda, the policy brief considers ways in which the G20 could advance such a systemic strategy
