National Medical Waste Capacity Assessment - COVID-19 Waste Management Factsheet 2
United Nations Environment Programme

Environmentally sound management of medical waste is one of the key challenges during normal times in many countries. During emergencies such as the COVID-19 pandemic, these challenges are magnified because the amount of waste produced increases. Resource Efficiency and Climate Change: Material Efficiency Strategies for a Low-Carbon Future - Summary for Policymakers
United Nations Environment Programme, International Resource Panel

This report conducts a rigorous assessment of the contribution of material efficiency to GHG abatement strategies. More concretely, it assesses the reduction potential of GHG emissions from material efficiency strategies applied in residential buildings and light duty vehicles, and reviews policies that address these strategies. It points to exciting new opportunities to reduce these impacts through
material efficiencies in homes and cars. This report makes it clear that natural resources are vital for our wellbeing, our housing, our transportation and our food. Their efficient use is central to a future with universal access to sustainable and affordable energy sources, emissions-neutral infrastructure and buildings, zero emission transport systems, energy-efficient industries and low-waste societies. The strategies highlighted in this report can play a big part in making this future a reality.

Working with the Environment to Protect People: UNEP’s COVID-19 Response
United Nations Environment Programme

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) stands with the billions of people suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic. The immediate priority is to protect them. But UNEP also has a duty to help nations build back better after the pandemic to increase resilience to future crises. In COVID-19, the planet has delivered its strongest warning to date that humanity must change. Shutting down economies is a short-term response to this warning. It cannot endure. Only by building functioning economies that work with nature, not against it, can the world’s nations thrive.
