Towards a Pollution-Free Planet: Background Report

Pollution today is pervasive and persistent. While the world has achieved significant economic growth over the past few decades, it has been accompanied by large amounts of pollution, with significant impacts on human health and ecosystems and the ways in which some of the major Earth system processes, such as the climate, are functioning. This report describes the pollution challenge, explores what is already being done to address pollution, and proposes 50 focused and actionable interventions to address pollution in all its forms. The report is a call to act towards a pollution-free planet.

Riding Towards Green Economy: Cycling and Green Jobs - A Joint Report by UN Environment-WHO-UNECE
United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, World Health Organization

Working together under the framework of the Transport, Health and Environment Pan-European Programme partnership on jobs in green and healthy transport, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the UN Environment and the World Health Organization Regional Of ce for Europe set out to investigate this emerging area of research. This new study represents the rst attempt to collect evidence from cities in the pan-European region on the number of cycling-related jobs, using a standardized approach, and highlights the role that green and healthy jobs can play.

Asia Waste Management Outlook

The Asia Waste Management Outlook (AWMO), which is regional in nature, is developed to complement the Global Waste Management Outlook (GWMO). This regional outlook provides an overview of the current status, the current thinking on “state of the art” topics, case studies, and the future of waste management in Asia over the medium term; challenges and opportunities, described through case studies; and recommendations based on technical, strategic, economic, and communication perspectives.
