The emissions gap report: are the Copenhagen accord pledges sufficient to limit global warming to 2c or 1.5c

This publication aims to assess the following questions: are countries' pledges of action collectively consistent with and, if implemented, likely to achieve the 2C and 1.5C temperature goals If not, how big is the gap between emission levels consistent with these temperature goals and the emissions expected as a result of the pledges? In responding to these questions, we are confronted with a series of highly complex issues, which result from scientific and political factors.

Carbon, Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services: Exploring Co-benefits Cambodia

The benefits of actions to maintain and enhance carbon stocks for climate change mitigation can be increased by taking into account the distribution not only of carbon, but of other ecosystem services, such as biodiversity. Here, we map the distribution of carbon stocks in relation to that of biodiversity in Cambodia. Other relevant factors, such as protected area distribution and land management units are also related to carbon and biodiversity distributions. A new map of carbon in Cambodia’s ecosystems has been produced for this analysis. This report presents results from an initial effort to produce such analyses for Cambodia. It includes new data on the distribution of terrestrial carbon stocks in Cambodia and analyses of its relation to areas of importance for biodiversity, Protected Areas and other land management units, and pressures (such as forest cover loss). It is expected that the study will be developed further in collaboration with other institutes and stakeholders.

A handbook for the indigenous and community conserved areas registry

Indigenous and Community Conserved Areas (ICCAs) are a globally significant type of managed areas governed by local or indigenous communities for conservation and cultural purposes. Their contributions to biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and climate change adaptation are significantly under-studied and documented. The ICCA Registry project, a partnership between UNEP-WCMC, UNDP, GEF Small Grants Programme, IUCN Commissions and the ICCA Consortium, aims to build a standardized knowledgebase and multi-media website for the development of a long-term awareness, recognition and valuation process for ICCAs. This handbook is intended as a guide for those involved with ICCAs who wish to participate in the ICCA Registry project. It also provides a general overview for others to learn about ICCAs. It contains information on the importance of ICCAs, benefits of the ICCA Registry, and detailed steps on contributing to and using the Registry. Case studies for several sites give a sense of the range of different ICCAs and their roles.

Investment in walking and cycling road infrastructure share the road
United Nations Environment Programme

This report outlines the core argument of Share the Road, a campaign that works to help re-balance the current state of road investments across all modes. Share the Road aims to increase investments in walking and cycling infrastructure by working with all stakeholders - governments and donors in particular - to develop and implement strong investment policies specifically for non-motorised transport (NMT). The core impetus is that investments in NMT infrastructure spur a triple win in improved environment, safety and accessibility, which as a whole, contribute to sustainable development and poverty reduction. Current road investment trends and institutional/policy developments and options for mobilising investments are discussed, as well as the costs and benefits of NMT infrastructure. In addition, the importance of NMT infrastructure is well-placed within the wider context of sustainable mobility and the Green Economy Initiative. Preliminary design guidelines and indicators are provided in the annexes.
