Desk study on the environment in Liberia
United Nations Environment Programme

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) participated in the post-conflict UN Needs assessment mission to Liberia. The findings of this desk study draw on key environmental information obtained from the Liberian national authorities, non-governmental organisations and other sources. Recommendations are made how environment could be fully integrated into the coming reconstruction efforts in Liberia. This study of Liberia shows how environment and development are fully interlinked even in the poorest societies. The clean-up of the environment after the conflict period and sustainable management of natural resources are prerequisites for the safe return of refugees, sound livelihoods and successful reconstruction of the country.

Report of the UNEP roundtable of Iraqi marshland management 21-22 September 2004
United Nations Environment Programme

The Amman Roundtable on Iraqi Marshland Management was organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on 21 and 22 September 2004 in Amman, Jordan. The Roundtable was one of the initial activities for UNEPs Support for Environmental Management of the Iraqi Marshlands project, which is being implemented within the framework of the United Nations Trust Fund for Iraqi Reconstruction. Dialogue during the project preparation process, with the Iraqi counterparts, UN agencies within the UN Trust Fund mechanism, and donor agencies, identified a clear need to discuss various on-going initiatives and to facilitate coordinated response for marshland management. UNEP was requested to organize a meeting to address this need.

Analyzing the resource impact of fisheries subsidies: a matrix approach
