The main objective of the Africa Environmental Education and Training Action Plan (AEETAP) is to enhance community environmental education and training within the continent, through various formal education, training, lifelong learning and capacity building programmes and projects, encouraging participation of both males and females equally. These programmes and projects are envisaged to fundamentally improve the environmental, societal and economic state of Africa for the benefit of Africa’s people, and are closely aligned to the five AMCEN flagship programmes.

This paper provides an overview of current thinking and the experience of countries in using legal frameworks to implement the Convention on Biological Diversity at the national level through National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans and provides options for enhancing legal preparedness in revising and implementing the National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans and the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011–2020 and achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.

The Climate Change Strategy for the Western Indian Ocean region is an operational framework to foster regional cooperation in addressing the impacts of climate change by assessing the degree of preparedness and the vulnerability and adaptive options of communities within the Nairobi Convention area. It takes into account the existence of national climate change strategies and complements national actions by encouraging collaborative e orts by States with the aim of sustainably managing marine and coastal ecosystems by enhancing the resilience and adaptive capacities of socio-ecological systems, individually or collectively, in order to maximize resource use, and by avoiding duplication of effort.
