Environmental Problems of East African Region: UNEP Regional Seas Reports and Studies No. 012

Decision 8/13 (C) of the eighth session of the governing council of UNEP called for the development of an action plan for the protection and development of marine and coastal environments Of East African region. As a result, UNEP in 1981 organized joint UNEP/UN/UNIDO/FAO/UNESCO/WHO/IMCO/IUCN exploratory mission which visited the eight states of the region in order to assess each states interest in participating in a future regional programme and make preliminary assessment of environmental assessment of the environmental problems in the region, including the problems related to the environmentally sound management of marine resources and activities influencing the quality of the marine and coastal ecosystems

Bearing in mind the considerable experience that has been accumulated in the protection and development of regional sea areas, the Governing Council of UNEP decided at its eighth session in May 1980 (decision 8/13 A) that the achievements and planned development of UNEP'S Regional Seas Programme, as well as of comparable programmes sponsored by other bodies, should be reviewed by a government expert group.

Cadmium in the European Community: A Prospective Assessment of Sources, Human Exposure and Environmental Impact – MARC Report Number 26

This study quantifies the sources of cadmium in the European Community (EC), reviews the concentrations found in the physical environment and its biotic components, and assesses current and future human exposure in the region. No attempt has been made to evaluate cadmium toxicity data generated from human studies or experimentally dosed animals. The risk of adverse health effects in humans is considered only in relation to the magnitude of exposure.
