Building Urban Resilience: Assessing Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture in Dakar

This report presents the findings of a knowledge assessment on urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) for the city of Dakar, Senegal, that was conducted in 2012. It examines the state of UPA in the city through the lens of intensifying urban pressures and increasing climate risks with the objective of identifying how these and other drivers potentially interact to affect the long-term sustainability of UPA, and what response options are needed to address existing and emerging challenges.

Green Growth Indicators

A first set of green growth indicators was proposed in Towards Green Growth: Monitoring Progress in 2011. This report updates and extends those indicators. It charts the progress that countries have made in four areas: the transition to a low carbon, resource efficient economy||maintaining the natural asset base||improving people’s environmental quality of life||and implementing policies for, and realising the economic opportunities associated with, green growth.

Horizon 2020 Mediterranean Report

The H2020 Mediterranean Report is a joint effort of the EEA and UNEP/MAP resulting from the creation of a regular review mechanism of environmental progress in the three H2020 policy priorities. These are municipal waste, urban waste water and industrial pollution. The report also serves as a contribution to the mid-term review of the H2020 initiative.

Environment Statistics of Nepal, 2013

The development of Environment Statistics is still at infancy stage in Nepal. It is a new area in the Statistical System of Nepal. Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) first published a compendium on Environment Statistics in 1994 which provided valuable insights into the importance and usefulness of the subject matter. ‘A Compendium on Environment Statistics 1998 Nepal’ was brought as second publication with an attempt to analyze available data on various aspect of the environment of Nepal. However, database on the environment was limited. Therefore, CBS continued attempts to bring out the environment related statistics by compiling and publishing its publication ‘Environment Statistics of Nepal, 2001’ in the form of environment database of Nepal. The present issue of ‘Environment Statistics of Nepal, 2013’ is the eighth in the series.

The 2012 International Visitors’ Exit Survey Report
National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), United Republic of Tanzania

The primary objective of the survey was to collect up-to-date tourist expenditure information for use in the ‘’Tourist Expenditure Model” developed in 2001. The 2012 survey’s results have indicated that there has been an improved performance of the tourism industry, evidenced by a significant increase in earnings from international visitors. Most of the visitors were impressed by Tanzania as one of the unique quality destinations, with friendly people and wonderful scenery. However, a number of visitors indicated the need for further improvement of the infrastructure particularly, roads between national parks and quality of services in some of the hotels.

Arab Environment 7: Food Security
Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED)

Food Security is the seventh in the series of annual reports on the state of Arab environment produced by the Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED). The primary aim of AFED reports is to foster the use of science in environmental policy and decision-making. This is in line with AFED’s mission “to advance prudent environmental policies and action in the Arab countries based on science and awareness.” This report highlights the need for more efficient management of the agriculture and water sectors, enhancing the prospects of food security. It comes as natural addition to the sequence.
