Reports and Books Guidelines for Health Related Monitoring of Coastal Water Quality
The present guidelines were drawn up to meet only those needs of participants in MED VII which are relevant to coastal water quality monitoring as expressed in the joint WHO/UNEP Expert Consultation on the subject (1). Many activities in MED VII are far beyond the scope of the monitoring programme proposed here, such as epidemiological studies parallel to coastal monitoring, and there
has been no attempt to include methodology for such studies in the present guidelines.

Reports and Books Health Criteria and Epidemiological Studies Related to Coastal Water Pollution
Among the immediate objectives of the above pilot project is the initiation of a scientific study on the epidemiological evidence of health effects resulting from inadequate sanitary conditions in coastal areas, and the promotion of related studies. In this connexion, a consultation meeting was organized in Athens by WHO and UNEP in collaboration with the Government of Greece. Its task was to
review the epidemiological factors and health criteria on which quality standards for coastal water are based and to develop a methodology for epidemiological research progress intended to provide reliable data for application in the field. This report contains the detailed findings.and recommendations of the consultation meeting. The agenda and list of participants are given in Annexes III and IV respectively.

Meeting reports and proceedings Report of the Mid-term Expert Consultation on the Joint FAO(GFCM)/UNEP coordinated Project on Pollution in the Mediterranean
This meeting identified a series of seven pilot projects and GFCM agreed to coordinate the implementation of four of them. The programme as drawn up during the meeting has been endorsed at the beginning of 1975 as part of an Action Plan by the UNEP Intergovernmental Meeting on the Protection of the Mediterranean and a FAO(GFCM)/UNEP Expert Consultation was convened that same year to prepare, for each of the four pilot projects, an operational document which is now an integral part of the agreements concluded between those research centers which participate in these projects and FAO(GFCM).
