This report of seizures and iPIC consultations is based on the cases reported in the context of the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Ozone Protection Award for Customs and Enforcement Officers (4th edition) which is part of the work programme of the UNEP Regional Ozone Network for Europe and Central Asia (ECA network).

The First Scoping meeting on collaboration between the Regional Seas programme and Regional Fisheries Bodies in the Southwest Indian Ocean was held on 14 March 2016 via a video conference in order to identify potential areas of cooperation between the Secretariats of the three relevant organisations: the Nairobi Convention (NBC), the South West Indian Ocean Fisheries Commission (SWIOFC) and the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC).

The meeting on Area Based Planning Tools and Regional Cooperation for the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda was held in Mahe, Seychelles on 13-14 October 2016 by the Secretariat for the Nairobi Convention for the Protection, Management and Development of the Marine and Coastal Environment of the Western Indian Ocean region in collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme's World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) as part of the implementation of the project on Sustainable fisheries Management and Biodiversity Conservation of Deep-sea Living Resources and Ecosystems in the Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (ABNJ).

A new multi-stakeholderregional initiative for environmentally responsible management of used lead acid batteries (ULAB) emerged as anoutcome of the Regional Workshop on Environmentally Sound Management (ESM) of these hazardous wastes. This workshop was organized by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)and the Basel Convention Regional Centre for Central America and Mexico (BCRC-CAM)inGuatemala City from 24 to 25 February 2016, with the support of the Guatemalan Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Moreover, this new regional initiative has set a goal that by 2020 most ULAB in this sub-region (Central America, Mexico, Dominican Republic and possibly the Caribbean) will be managed in an environmentally responsible manner, without causing harm to health and the environment.
