Greening SMEs Leather Clusters and Leather Tanning Industry - Kenya

The project will contribute to improved productivity, reduction in the
production of waste and it would enhance the management of physical
and liquid waste. Specifically the project seeks to: Improve SMEs
competitiveness through energy, space and machinery optimisation by
promoting joint use under Clusters; Promote recycling and reduction
in the use of chemicals with a negative impact to the environment;
and develop a roadmap for improving effluent management and
quantification of carbon footprint of the leather sector.

Business Model Analysis Training: Nurturing Sustainable Coffee Enterprises

Understanding your business model is an important aspect in transformation to a competitive and environmentally friendly entity. In May 2019 a workshop on business model analysis in the coffee value chain was conducted in which 33 MSMEs from eleven counties participated. The training is part of the European Union-funded SWITCH Africa Green project: Green to Grow - A Revenue Generation Approach for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) Dissemination in Kenya which aims to support Kenya achieve sustainable development by engaging in their transition to an inclusive green economy, and in promoting a shift to Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) patterns and practices. The capacity building Forum has the objective of supporting MSMEs in analyzing and adopting business models that incorporate sustainable consumption and production practices with the long-term goal of realizing a green economy.

The Effects of Large Carnivores on Livestock and Animal Husbandry in Marsabit District, Kenya - IPAL Technical Report Number E-4

The objectives of this study were: - to describe predation by wild carnivores on livestock
of the nomadic tribes in the Mt Kulal area, northern Kenya; - to describe the pastoralists' methods of protection against predation and the environmental cost of these methods; and - to advise on possible alternative methods of protection.

A Report on the Status, Importance and Protection of the Montane Forests: IPAL Technical Report Number D-2a

The terms of reference for this study of the montane forests were for "an ecological study of the isolated mountain rain forests within the project working area. It will include preliminary ecological surveys to provide an account of the botanical composition of the forests. The major part of the work will be to describe the successional trends taking place and the interactions of the forests with the human populations. An attempt will be made to answer the questions: What is the role of the forests in the ecology of the region? What is the impact on the forests of human activity? What are the probable results of this impact? A report will be produced which will emphasize the importance of the forests and provide additional arguments for their conservation, and recommendations for their management."

Towards Improved Policy Making for Natural Resources and Ecosystem Management in Sub-Saharan Africa: Results of a Consultation Meeting held at the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry 2-6 October 1995

This report documents the results of a workshop held at the International Centre for Research in Agroforestry (ICRAF) in Nairobi 2-6 October 1995 on Policies for sustain-able integrated ecosystem management. The workshop, which was sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), aimed to improve the ability of governments to develop policies and programmes for the sustainable use of natural resources as part of integrated ecosystem management, and to stimulate dialogue among the sectors to help bridge the gap and resolve conflict. Among the results hoped for were mechanisms to harmonize national policies for the implementation of integrated natural resource management.
