Montreal Protocol and Legal Experts from Southern African Development Community countries team up for Kigali Amendment

First World Refrigeration Day Focuses on Safe Refrigerant Use

The American Society of Heating Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the UN Environment’s OzonAction Branch, are working with the World Refrigeration Day Secretariat to provide information and tools that bring awareness to the benefits of new technologies and which promote the safe and responsible use of refrigerants, the life blood of all cooling systems.

GEO-6 Key Messages (Developed by the Bureau Members of the Summary for Policymakers Meeting) - Note by the Secretariat

As an outcome of the negotiation meeting of the Summary for Policymakers of the sixth Global Environment Outlook (Jan. 21-24, 2019 Nairobi) the Bureau of the meeting was requested to take the responsibility for finalizing a ‘Key Messages’ document that would concisely explain to Ministers and senior decision makers what the key messages were emerging from the main assessment report. The Bureau proceeded in this task by requesting input from all Member states present at the negotiation meeting on the draft of the Key Messages document. In addition, the Bureau requested input from the High-level Intergovernmental and Stakeholder Advisory Group and the co-chairs of the GEO-6 assessment.

Laudato Si Generation: Young People Caring for Our Common Home - International Conference on the 4th Anniversary of Laudato Si’ and 5th Anniversary of CYNESA. Concept Note

The conference will be a forum for deeper reflection on Catholic social teaching on care for creation, from an African context and enriched by global perspectives. It will raise and address urgent needs and opportunities in Africa and explore how we can make the rapid shifts we need relating to clean electrification and local ownership and profit from development, while preserving indigenous wisdom and land rights. We will showcase best practices across the continent and the particular role of youth leadership and innovation.

Chair’s Summary - Consultative Meeting on the Development of an African Strategy for Ocean Governance

A Consultative Meeting on the Development of an African Strategy for Ocean Governance was held at the United Nations Offices in Nairobi, 29-30 November 2018 to discuss possible elements to be included in the African Strategy for Ocean Governance. The meeting was organized by United Nations Environment Programme, and was attended by 45 participants from African countries, international organizations, regional seas programmes, regional economic bodies and research institutes.

Refrigerant Management Tools for Developing Countries UN Environment Programme OzonAction/ASHRAE Side Event 30th Meeting of the Parties, Quito, Ecuador

At the 30th Meeting of Parties of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, UN Environment Programme OzonAction and ASHRAE held a side event on Refrigerant Management Tools for countries operating under Article 5 of the Protocol. These tools were developed under a long-standing partnership between the OzonAction and ASHRAE.

Communications and Outreach: Note by the Secretariat

UN Environment Chemicals and Health Branch, as Secretariat of the Global Mercury Partnership, has endeavoured to enhance the impact of the Partnership by facilitating communication between Partnership areas and with the broader stakeholder community. The Secretariat has made efforts to improve communication and outreach by migrating and enhancing the functionality of the Partnership website. The Secretariat has prepared the annexed report on progress made on Partnership communications and outreach.
