Welcome to the JPO Portal
The Junior Professional Officer (JPO) Programme provides young professionals with hands-on experience in the international arena. JPOs are professional level staff, whose applications for specific positions are submitted to UNEP through their respective governments, who then finance their assignment through trust fund arrangements, normally for a period of two to three years. JPOs have the status of international civil servants and are subject to the United Nations Staff Regulations and Rules. The main objective of the JPO Programme is to support the implementation of UNEP's mission, which is to identify environmental challenges and encourage intergovernmental cooperation and partnerships in addressing environmental problems. UNEP seeks to inform and enable nations and people to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations. JPOs work with international and national staff and are involved in the identification, design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of UNEP projects and programmes.
